Bazon Brock Born 1936 in Stolp, Pomerania (now Polish) – changed first name from Jürgen to Bazon (Greek: “windbag”). Studied German language and literature, philosophy, art history and political science in Hamburg, Frankfurt am Main and Zürich; 1964 Doctor of Philosophy. From 1959 happenings with Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Alan Kaprow, Joseph Beuys, Wolf Vostell, Nam June Paik, Gerhard Merz etc., as well as “action teachings” in Europe, Japan and USA. 1960/61 drama advisor at the Stadttheater Lucerne. Teaching posts: 1965–1978 professor of non-normative aesthetics at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg; 1978–1981 professor of design theory at the Hochschule für angewandte Kunst in Vienna; 1981–2005 professor of aesthetics and design theory at the Bergische Universität in Wuppertal. Honorary doctorate in technical science at the Eidgenössisch-Technischen Hochschule in Zürich (1992); Distinguished Service Cross, First Class, of the Federal Republic of Germany Order of Merit (2005). Discussant on the 3sat TV series “Bilderstreit” since 1997. |
