For Graz, 2003 Cultural Capital of Europe, Irene Andessner put the spotlight on the first wife of Sacher-Masoch. Wanda von Sacher-Masoch, born Angelica Aurora Rümelin (1845 - prob. 1908), embodied for her husband the cruel Wanda from his novel "Venus im Pelz" [Venus in furs]. The outcome was a large video installation in the Dom am Berg, a domed hall in the Schlossberg, at which a live recording of an interactive performance could be seen. Parallel to the exhibition, a Wanda Sacher Masoch Room was opened in the Hotel Erzherzog Johann (www.Erzherzog-Johann.com) and the Wanda Sacher-Masoch Gâteau was launched. Designed by Andessner following hints in Wanda’s diary, the room can be booked in the normal way.
