About "Malerhut"
Goya 200 years ago: "Self-portrait in the studio". The man is wearing a hat, the brim set with candles so that he can work at the easel at night. Because some painters took their straw hat for this purpose (as modeled by Kirk Douglas in the 1956 Van Gogh film), they sometimes burned the hat. This is the scene that Irene Andessner has re-staged. The five film stills show the dramatic sequence of events in time-lapse. The straw hat, snatched from his head by the artist at the last moment and thrown to the ground, goes on burning in the accompanying video clip.
